Floral Embroidery Workshop FAQs
What is floral embroidery?
Floral embroidery is a new form of embroidery. When we say "embroidery", we create shapes and patterns on fabric using thread. The difference with floral embroidery is that we use flowers to create our shapes.
What flower should I use?
Dried flowers are perfect for this form of art. Fresh flowers will shrink and rot on fabric, which can cause damage to your work. The easiest way to dry flowers is by hanging them in a dark room for at least 14 days.
Where can I get materials?
Materials are available through the following:
What are the important processes that I should remember in this type of art?
First, make sure that your flowers and their stems are clean and cut at least 1-2 cm (or just enough for you to cling the stem to the tulle). Second, if you are working on abstract shapes, you may use the stems of your flowers to weave through the holes of your tulle. Another strategy is to use glue and stick your flowers on the tulle. This is perfect if you are working on monograms or designs with pre-made patterns.
How do I seal my work?
Dilute glue in water (50% glue - 50% water) and brush it on the back and front of your work. Make sure that there is no excess glue on the tulle. If this happens, you may use your fingers to wipe it immediately.
How do I take care of my finished artwork?
To ensure the longevity of your flowers, consider where you hang them in your room. While it might be tempting to display them in a sunny spot, prolonged exposure to sunlight can cause them to fade or bleach. Therefore, it's advisable to avoid hanging them near windows or doors where they'll receive direct sunlight.
Additionally, moisture is another factor to consider. Hanging flowers in bathrooms or other areas with high humidity levels can lead to damage over time. The excess moisture can cause wilting, molding, or even premature decay of your floral arrangements. Hence, it's best to choose a location in your room that is relatively dry to preserve the beauty of your flowers for as long as possible.
